  Sons In Retirement is a nonprofit public benefit corporation for retired men.  SIR’s purpose is to assist men in renewing friendships and making many new friends through SIR activities.  Having fun is its goal.  There are no fees or assessments.  A man retired from full time employment meets the only requirement for membership.  From its inception in 1958 SIR has grown to 24,000 members in 2005.  
     
  Special Events

SPECIAL EVENTS

Several times during the year, events are held to which wives and friends are invited. Picnics, Ladies Day, Spring dances and December Holiday parties.

 
  Travel

TRAVEL

SIR Branches work through a number of travel agencies to sponsor a wide range of travel opportunities.  Ocean and river cruising, bus and train trips to Las Vegas and wide cultural and recreational events.

 
  Fishing

FISHING

Northern California offers many opportunities for fresh and salt water fishing.  Most SIR branches schedule fishing trips for rock and salmon fishing in salt water as well as fresh water lake and stream fishing.

 
  Golf

GOLF

An active golf program is an integral part of most SIR Branch activities.  SIR golfers enjoy weekly local golfing and annual statewide tournaments.

 
  Computers

COMPUTERS

Meetings are held regularly for those interested in computer hardware and software.  The rapid advance in technology makes this a very useful forum for exchanging ideas and learning about new developments. Novices and experts are all welcome.

 
  Meetings

MEETINGS

Monthly Luncheon meetings, where Sirs get together, socialize and renew acquaintances, are also the occasions where members coordinate the various SIR activities and conduct whatever business is necessary.

 
  Bowling

BOWLING

Indoor bowling leagues are formed in most SIR Branches. Many Branches provide Lawn bowling where greens are available.

 
  Speakers

SPEAKERS

Speakers are invited to the Monthly Luncheon meetings and discuss various subjects which are of interest to the members.
